Collection pages and filters
Collection layouts, collection images, filters and sorting, pagination, and alternate templates for individual collections.

Open Collections → Default collection in the editor’s template menu and select the Collection section.
Collection settings
| Setting | What it does |

| Collection image | Hidden, Beside the heading or Banner above the heading. Uses the image set on the collection in your admin. |
| Image override | Optional. One image used for every collection on this template instead of each collection’s own image. |

| Products per page | 8 to 48. Selects rounds to whole sheets of 9. |
| Columns on desktop, Columns on mobile | For Sheet and Selects. Desktop 3 to 5, mobile 1 or 2. |
| Image ratio | Theme default, or a ratio for this collection’s cards. |
| Show collection description | Shows the collection’s description under the title. |

| Enable sorting | Shows the sort menu. |
The three layouts
- Sheet: an even grid. The most compact way to browse.
- Selects: a contact sheet with a marked lead product. When a collection has fewer than 9 products, it picks a column count that fills whole rows.
- Sequence: alternating large images and text, like catalog plates. Best for small, image-led collections.
Empty collections show a short message. When filters are active, the message includes a link to clear them.
Filters
Filters come from Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app:
- Install Search & Discovery from the Shopify App Store.
- In the app, open Filters and choose what customers can filter by: availability, price, product type, vendor, options such as size and color, or metafields.
- Make sure Enable filtering is on in the Collection section.
ÉLAN shows the filters in a Filter panel on collection and search pages. Active filters appear above the products, where customers can remove them one at a time or clear them all.
Sorting
With Enable sorting on, customers can sort by featured, best selling, alphabetical, price and date. Set a collection’s default order in your admin under the collection’s Sort.
Search results
The search page has its own Search results section with the same filtering and sorting options, plus Results per page, Columns on desktop and Product image ratio. Customers can also use predictive search in the header (Show predictive search in the Header section).
A different layout for one collection
To give one collection its own layout:
- In the editor’s template menu, choose Collections → Create template, and name it.
- Change the new template’s Layout and other settings.
- In your admin, open the collection and choose the new template under Theme template.
The Screening demo uses this for its “After Hours” collection.
Collection list page
The page at /collections lists your collections. Its Collection list section lets you choose Collections to show (leave it empty to show all), Columns on desktop, Image ratio and Collections per page. Tiles use each collection’s image, or its first product’s image.
